Really important xbox question!!! need answers fast??!!?

so im getting the xbox 360 not the slim but the white fat one and buying a kinect to, ok so i heard that in order to play the kinect with older versions of xbox u need an update and in order to do that you need an ethernet cable but i dont have that cable does the xbox 360 white version have wifi capability because i dont have that ethernet cable will i not be able to play the kinect please help my birthday is right around the corner so i dont wanna waste my money to buy this for it not to work thanks very much
