So, how you cure an one year old from biting?

My almost 13 month old son is a biter. He will bite me when he's mad at me often, but at times he will randomly come up and bite me or his dad. He hasn't (fortunately) bitten any other people, but I'm sure that will follow. I usually say "No biting. It hurts Mommy!" firmly and (hopefully) calmly. Some times he stops, but if he's mad at me for some reason, he will bite again. I will out him in his crib for a short time out, but I really don't want to do that because I don't want him to associate his crib with being in trouble. And no, I'm not going to ignore it and just hope it goes away. What do you use for a "time out" with your young toddler? My son understands "No" and even stops what he's doing (most of the time) when he realizes he's been caught. I want to teach my son even at a young age that biting is NOT OK.
